Over the last ten years, Colin Carruthers has visited around fifteen of the islands located in the Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland.  In June 2013, he travelled to the islands of Coll and Tiree.  The white-washed cottages of Arinagour greet you as you arrive on Coll, and Colin stayed in the white cottage just showing on the right, in the background of this print

Coll has some of the longest sunshine hours recorded in the UK and winter days are followed by dark starry nights that will take your breath away.  There are no street lights and little other light pollution, allowing unobstructed views of the night sky.  On clear nights in winter, the Northern Lights are often visible.  The island’s meadows and moors provide home to a wealth of flora and fauna and there are many species of wild life inhabiting the island.  With around thirty sandy beaches lapped by turquoise seas, the island never seems to be crowded and gives the opportunity of taking in the peace and tranquillity whilst feeling the wonderful sea breeze.
